CHANCEL CHOIR CELEBRATES A NEW CHOIR SUNDAY
Sunday, May 18 - 10:30 a.m. Worship Service
This service marks the Chancel Choir’s celebration of music in worship: “Choir Sunday” as we’ve been calling it recently. In years past we have done major choral works such as the Schubert Mass in G, the Fauré Requiem or
Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass, but this year we are trying something new: putting together some more challenging choral anthems that don’t require large scale instrumentation, but that focus more on the beauty of pure choral sound.

Two of the anthems will be sung a capella (unaccompanied): Cantate Domino by Heinrich Schütz and an arrangement of Praise to the Lord, the Almighty by F. Melius Christiansen. One of the anthems is in a beautifully contemporary style with a lovely piano accompaniment by Ralph Johnson called Be Thou a Smooth Way. Please join us as we praise God through music in a new way with some choral gems on May 18.
